The opening of Leaves combines environmental sounds of trains and construction equipment with drums from the Dave Smith Tempest and a vintage Optigan from Sylvia Massy’s studio. Sylvia loved the demo of the introduction and specifically she wanted “more train”.
While writing the majority of this album, I was struggling mentally. This is one of the songs that isn’t easy for me to listen to now that I’m in a better place. While there is the glimmer of hope in it, I know that the hope wasn’t real. Leaves was written half as a love letter and half as a goodbye to someone who might have never known I existed.
lyrics
I want you to think about me When you find yourself,
Make love with someone else , A thought of me you own.
I want you to dream about me
When you board a city train.
When you’re bored with life’s display I want to know.
Maybe I’m not enough.
Or, Maybe I’m too much.
Either way, you don’t need me around. Maybe in another time,
Or in another life
You’d fall in love with me
Like leaves fall to the ground.
Maybe you’ll change your mind And one cold day I’ll find
You at my door saying
You need me around.
But if I hold my breath,
My dear, I will find my death.
I will fall, like leaves fall to the ground.
I want you to think about me. A thought of me you own.

Nichts - yes, just that as a reflection of my current circumstances & thinkings of a life itself. Album is great! After a long, long time, brought me back to Selofan. I alwayas liked that cold-wave/dark-wave sound. vladimir milojkovity
